Number of HIV cases in Czech Republic highest since 1985

In 2012 the National Reference Laboratory confirmed 212 new HIV cases of Czech citizens and foreigners with long-term residence. Consequently, the Czech Republic cannot be considered a country with the lowest HIV incidence in Europe any longer as the limit of two cases per 100,000 inhabitants has been exceeded.

HIV in gay men 'refuses to fall'

Huge improvements in treating and testing for HIV have failed to curb infections in gay and bisexual men in England and Wales, a study suggests. New infections were static at about 2,300 a year between 2001 and 2010, despite rises in early diagnosis and far more people taking medication. Scientists, writing in the Lancet Infectious Diseases, said there had been a return of risky sexual practice.

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health is campaigning for HIV programmers to develop new interventions for married couples who are mow bearing the brunt of new HIV infections in the country.
